Position Announcement: Research Assistant & Lab Engineer (1 position), Mechanical Engineering


The Sirindhorn International Thai-German Graduate School of Engineering (TGGS) is a public-private partnership, established with strong support from the Thai and German Governments, for engineering education, technology innovation and business development in Thailand and South East Asia. Its industry-oriented M.Sc. and Ph.D. level education concept combines teaching and research based on the successful model of RWTH Aachen University, Germany, one of Europe’s leading technical universities. TGGS is located in new facilities on the campus of King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok.

Structural Dynamics Research Group
A new research group, with a significant investment package in physical test and computer simulation equipment coming on line this year. Example topics of interest include general vibration problems, modal analysis, smart structures, condition monitoring, impact and shock loading.

Duties

  • The RA/Eng will be a full time TGGS employee, with a permanent contract from KMUTNB, assigned to the SDR Group. Will work under the supervision of the Lecturer who heads the SDR Group.
  • Be responsible for the day to day management and running of the physical test lab, keeping the lab in full working order and contribute to all levels of lab development and planning.
  • Carry out a full experimental research programme as directed, and support the experimental work of other staff and students who have approved projects that can be run in the lab.
  • Support links to industry, research, consultancy and engineering services business development.
  • Other duties from time to time as assigned by the Head of the SDR Group.

Candidate requirements

  • Have at least a Bachelors (preferably a Masters) Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Have an interest in and previous experience in some of the topic areas listed above.
  • Should preferably have skills in experimental mechanics and simulation, using packages such as ANSYS, Matlab, Vibrasuite, NI Labview, data acquisition and modal analysis equipment.
  • Some knowledge of control or programming skills would also be an advantage.

Salary

  • The RA/Eng will be in the Thai Government salary system with an on-top TGGS salary bonus to bridge the gap to industry salaries (depending on profile and experience).
  • The RA/Eng could have additional income, through approved research projects or engineering services that directly support the Group’s activities and interests.

Career development

  • Should develop expertise in the above topics and become the in-house expert in the use of all facilities in the lab. To be supported by initial training, including the possibility of training with other companies, but will be expected to self-train after a period of time. Will be supported by mentoring from the Head of SDR Group.
  • Contribution to the growth of the Group could be rewarded by increasing levels of responsibility and opportunities for additional income.
  • An RA/Eng who reaches a sufficient level of performance may be offered to pursue a doctoral program at TGGS including an opportunity of one-year research at RWTH-Aachen University in Germany to gain experience at international level.
